Lift oneself from off the ground
as a way to become safe and sound,
for the purpose of being found
is to marvel at the majesty all around,
and through an attitude of gratitude
for the miracle of birth,
a person could try to find
a sense of personal worth
while living upon the Earth,
and through the willingness to be kind,
the heart and the soul could both align
as stars that sparkle across the sky,
for being as peaceful as a sage
could assuage the fear of tomorrow
without the need for pain and sorrow,
and by being pure for sure,
everlasting beauty could still endure
in such a thoughtful and compelling way
that would honor the present of today

Alex Andy Phuong earned his Bachelor of Arts in English from California State University—Los Angeles in 2015.
