International Book Lovers Day Recommendations

International Book Lovers Day was August ninth, but really, what’s stopping the celebration? This holiday gives readers a chance to celebrate the many aspects of reading that they love such as digging into a new adventure, meeting inspiring characters, or exploring a new world. There are so many books and genres out there to choose from but here are some of 2023’s best sellers to help you celebrate!

The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune

Linus Baker spends his days looking out for the children in government-sanctioned orphanages while working for the Department in Charge Of Magical Youth. His quiet life is interrupted when he’s given a classified case that requires him to travel to the Marsyas Island Orphanage run by Arthur Parnassus. During his visit, Linus realizes that the six children Arthur is devoted to might just bring about the end of days. Pick up the book to find out if Linus will choose to save the family or the world.

Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus

Set in the 1960’s, “Lessons in Chemistry” follows Elizabeth Zott, a chemist at Hastings Research Institute who finds that Calvin Evans is in love with her mind. A few years later we find Elizabeth a single mom and host of the famous cooking show Supper at Six where she takes a chemists approach to cooking. As the shows audience increases, so do the negative reactions surrounding the bold and scientific lessons targeted at women.

Happy Place by Emily Henry

Harriet and Wyn have been the golden couple since college, but they secretly broke up six months ago and are now pretending to still be together at their friend group’s annual trip to the cottage in Maine. The two find themselves sharing a room and longing looks in the now for sale cottage. Will Harriet and Wyn survive a week of lies and longing in front of their friends?

Icebreaker by Hannah Grace

With a full college scholarship, a place on the Maple Hills skating team, and a packed schedule, Anastasia Allen is determined to finally get a shot at Team USA in competitive figure skating. International Book Lovers Day might have just passed, but that doesn’t mean we can’t keep the celebration going by reading more books!
