Hi, I’m Raissa! I have almost 20 years of educational experience. I was a teacher in an urban middle school for 13 years and a building administrator for the past 6 years. I have a bachelor’s degree in social studies/ secondary education and a master’s degree in educational leadership and I hold multiple educational certifications. I have run multiple extracurricular and summer programs focusing on reading gap skills. Over the years, I have worked with students of all ability levels from special education and English language learners to gifted students. As a teacher, my focus was reading across the curriculum and showing students that reading is a lifelong skill. I try to use students’ own interests to improve their reading skills and try to make learning fun and exciting. I am a mother to 3 elementary-age children who have had their own struggles with reading, so as a parent I know how important reading help is. I will work with you and your child to identify their interests, stumbling blocks, and missing skills and develop a plan to help motivate and support them to become better readers.
